At ELM Legal Services we have partnered with Bristol Animal Rescue Centre to provide free Wills to those who support the charity.
Bristol Animal Rescue Centre (Bristol A.R.C.) has been caring for the city’s unwanted and rescued pets and wildlife for over 130 years.
The charity is the oldest and largest local animal charity, helping, healing and homing over 10,000 vulnerable animals each year. Bristol A.R.C. is affiliated with the RSPCA, however it does not receive any automatic funding from the RSPCA and relies entirely on local community support to carry out its vital work.
At Elm Legal Services we are proud to support Bristol A.R.C. by offering a free Will to anyone who includes a legacy in their Will leaving money to the charity. Any amount of money will be greatly appreciated by them and will enable them to keep caring for animals in need.
Do I need a Will?
It is always recommended that everyone makes a Will, whatever their age. By putting a Will in place, you can ensure that your estate passes to those whom you would like to inherit. You can also choose who you would like to act as your executor to wind up your estate and appoint your choice of guardian for your children.
While no-one likes to think about the need for a Will, most of those who have put a Will in place have done so for the peace of mind it offers. Once you have made sure that your loved ones will be provided for and your assets protected, you can put it from your mind.
If you do not have a Will, there is a risk that your estate might not go to those you would have chosen or that your assets may be spent or lost, when they could have been safeguarded for future generations. If you leave children who are under 18, it will be for the Court to decide who they should live with and it may not be the person you would have chosen.
You can use a Will to legitimately reduce the amount of Inheritance Tax payable by your estate. Having a valid Will in place can also go a long way to avoiding family disputes following a death, as everyone will be aware of exactly what your wishes are.
Supporting Bristol A.R.C.
If you would like to have a Will drawn up, then by leaving a donation to Bristol A.R.C. you can have the document drafted by our legal experts free of charge. The charity relies on regular donations, fundraising and, importantly, legacies, to keep running.
Their mission statement is to prevent cruelty and promote kindness to animals as well as reducing animal suffering and increasing animal wellbeing as much as possible.
Their welfare principles are based on the RSPCA’s ‘5 Freedoms’:
- Freedom from hunger and thirst
- Freedom from discomfort
- Freedom from pain, injury and disease
- Freedom to express normal behaviour
- Freedom from fear and distress
Subject to space, the charity aims never to turn away an animal in need of their help. They always go the extra mile to meet the particular welfare needs of each animal in their care. As well as enrichment, diet, play and expert veterinary care, all animals are respected and treated with empathy and compassion.
